Reasoning on Business Processes and Ontologies in a Logic Programming Environment

چکیده
In this paper we present a semantic approach to Business Process (BP) Management. The proposal is based on a synergic use of an ontological framework (OPAL), to capture the semantics of a business scenario, and a business process modelling framework (BPAL), to represent the underlying application logic. Both frameworks are grounded in a logic-based formalism (Logic Programming) and therefore it is possible to apply effective reasoning methods to make inferences over a BPKB (Business Process Knowledge Base) stemming from the fusion of the two.

A Visual Environment for Developing Defeasible Rule Bases for the Semantic Web
Defeasible reasoning is a rule-based approach for efficient reasoning with incomplete and inconsistent information. Such reasoning is useful for many applications in the Semantic Web, such as policies and business rules, agent brokering and negotiation, ontology and knowledge merging, etc., mainly due to interesting features, such as conflicting rules and priorities of rules. However, the RuleM...
متن کاملOntology-Based Querying of Composite Services
Enterprises are evolving towards advanced forms of cooperation and networking. This kind of tight cooperation requires the creation of global Business Processes (i.e., cross-enterprise composite services) composed starting from a set of existing local processes (exposed, in turn, as services) found in different enterprises. To this end, in this chapter we present an ontology-based approach for ...
متن کاملDesign of supply chain in fuzzy environment
Nowadays, customer expectations are increasing and organizations are prone to operate in an uncertain environment. Under this uncertain environment, the ultimate success of the firm depends on its ability to integrate business processes among supply chain partners. Supply chain management emphasizes cross-functional links to improve the competitive strategy of organizations. Now, companies are ...

This chapter is focused on the basic principles behind the utilization of rules in order to perform reasoning about the Web Ontology Language (OWL), a Description Logic-based language that is the W3C recommendation for creating and sharing ontologies in the Semantic Web. More precisely, we elaborate on the entailment-based OWL reasoning (EBOR) paradigm, which is based on the utilization of RDF/...
متن کاملAbductive logic programming for Datalog +/- ontologies
Ontologies are a fundamental component of the Semantic Web since they provide a formal and machine manipulable model of a domain. Description Logics (DLs) are often the languages of choice for modeling ontologies. Great effort has been spent in identifying decidable or even tractable fragments of DLs. Conversely, for knowledge representation and reasoning, integration with rules and rule-based ...
